Camp Fircom on Gambier Island will be the location for the next Howe Sound Community Forum taking place on April 29th . The Gambier Island Local Area Trustees are hosts for this gathering of elected officials, First Nations and representatives of non-profit organizations who attend as observers. Participants who will travel from different points by water taxi to the island for a day of presentations and sharing information in the spirit of cooperation based on the mutual values agreed upon in the Principles of Cooperation.
The program includes updates from the previous forum held in October hosted by District of Squamish, Squamish Nation’s progress on Marine Planning and, the Nation’s collaboration with the David Suzuki Foundation and the Vancouver Aquarium’s Coastal Ocean Research Institute on a report on Coastal Ocean Health for Howe Sound. Representatives from the Town of Gibsons will share their Eco-Asset Strategy and MP Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, MLA Nicholas Simons and MLA Jordan Sturdy will also provide relevant updates. Islands Trust representatives will share information on their advocacy for protecting this unique part of the world and Camp Director Jeff Willis will share information about the camp and provide a tour at the end of the program.
