DSCN1458This past year we have had many reports of old boats, floating docks and other junk being discarded around Howe Sound.  Owners happy to leave it to nature or other people to deal with the consequences. This is not a unique problem for Howe Sound and organizations are working with Transport Canada and other regulators to come up with solutions.

Local Governments via Union of BC Municipalities have urged the Federal Government to find solutions to this problem. In response, Transport Canada is creating an inventory of problem vessels and floating structures.  Please help and submit information by March 5, 2014, this is important.

In January this year, the Coast Guard took responsibility for transporting a 75′ tug after it had been raised from the Mamquam Channel in Squamish to Vancouver.    The boat sank for a second time en route to Vancouver off Point Atkinson.  MP for the region, John Weston posted this report on the facts about the handling of the Elf.    We hope the story doesn’t end here as safety and protection of our marine environment is high priority.
