Moving along with the Environmental Assessment process, Woodfibre LNG has now officially entered the 180 day review period. Woodfibre has submitted its formal application to the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office and the public now has 60 days to comment on this application. This period runs from January 22nd through March 23rd, 2015. This is the only opportunity to provide feedback on the documents submitted to the proponent and the government assessing the project.
The documents are being reviewed by the Working Group comprised of representatives from various government agencies appointed by the EA office. Once the public comments and working group comments are finalized, conditions on which the project should be approved will be provided by EA staff to provincial cabinet ministers for their final approval. The volume of information to review is daunting – thousands of pages – but comments from the public are very important. You don’t need to read or understand the entire document to ask a great question that will lead to an improvement in the project
During the first public comment period, over 1,500 comments were posted to the BCEAO website. Woodfibre’s responses to these comments are available for review. If you commented, you may want to take the time to find your comment and review the response given. The public comments on the Draft Application Information Requirements did result in some changes being made. The BCEAO also responded to public comments.
The Fortis BC Eagle Mountain Pipeline project that is necessary to deliver the natural gas to Woodfibre has also filed its formal application. Read more…
