You may, or may not, know that Burnco Rock Products are planning to put a concrete aggregate mine at McNab Creek in the Howe Sound. A mine like this would threaten the newly rejuvenated ecosystem that has allowed Pacific White Sided Dolphins and other species to return to the Sound.

Want to read more about the proposal? You can here.

Residents and communities in the Howe Sound have come together to oppose this project as the risks to ecosystems and habitat and the enormous impacts on tourism and recreational users simply make no sense given that the project will produce a meager 12 jobs.

We hope you will be able to attend the informational meeting on the Burnco McNab Creek Mine Proposal that will be hosted by Islands Trust on Wednesday May 23, 2012, at the Gleneagles Community Centre.  This will be your opportunity to hear about the proposed mine and ask questions of Burnco representatives.  Although Islands Trust had originally expected that Federal and Provincial environmental assessment representatives would be at the meeting, they have now advised that those representatives will attend a future meeting once the Application Information Requirements documentation is released.

We encourage you to attend and have your views heard.
