The next stage of BURNCO’s project has begun according to the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BCEAO).  The next phase requires the company to hold open houses to explain the project and collect feedback on Application Information Requirements (AIR) Document.

This is the first (of at least two) public opportunities to voice your concerns about the project by providing comment on the (AIR),  and we want as many people as possible to be aware and participate.  We will have information available in nearby rooms at the same locations and time as the BURNCO open house so please feel free to drop by and find out more.    This is where you live and play, you have a say, its time to speak up.

Time and Location:

There are two open houses being held, at the following times and places:

Cedars Inn,
895 Gibsons Way, Gibsons, BC

on: Tuesday, October 1
from: 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Gleneagles Community Centre (Gym),
6262 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, BC
on: Wednesday, October 2
from: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The AIR document outlines the studies, and plans that BURNCO will have to produce and be scrutinized by to be allowed to proceed.  Unless you want to see projects like this move ahead before there is any sort of management or development plan for the Howe Sound area we strongly encourage you to make the time to go through the open houses, ask questions and make written recommendations to the Government you elected.   If you don’t show you care the decision makers will assume you support BURNCO in their plans to permanently remove a good portion of this valley.

The Process:

The process seems to be straight forward, there is no big presentation or public speaking opportunity, instead the BURNCO people will be available in a number of stations each relating to a specific aspect of the project.   You will be able to see their maps, charts, diagrams and materials first hand, all parts of the AIR, and make written comments and suggestions of additional studies that you believe need to be addressed by BURNCO.   Its about compiling a list of ALL matters that need to be addressed, not specifically about how BURNCO plans to address these issues.

We encourage all those from the Sunshine coast, Gambier, McNab and the surrounding communities to attend the Gibsons session.
We encourage all those from West Vancouver, Lions Bay to Squamish to attend the Gleneagles session.
